Face-to-face classes run on Thursdays and Fridays, also available via distance learning. Students may commence this study at any time.
This Nationally Recognised qualification is for educators who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation programs. In doing so they support the implementation of an approved learning framework and may work under direct supervision or autonomously whilst educating children to achieve their developmental outcomes. You will learn in depth about appropriate interaction with children and fulfilling their physical, emotional and self-care needs. Some Saturday sessions may be included.

Content

The content of this qualification incorporates the Being, Belonging and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework and My Time, Our Place – Framework for School Age Care in Australia and the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority and can involve either class-room or distance-based learning (correspondence studies). In some cases, employment based learning is available; which would include students completing their qualification within a traineeship program. Students are required to undertake mandatory work placement of 120 hours.

Generally, the following units of competency, including fifteen (15) core units and four (4) electives, will be completed:

Outcomes/Benefits

The Certificate IV in in School Age Education and Care covers workers in outside school hour’s care and vacation programs, vacation care centres, family day care centres and home-based care services, using organisational policies and procedures within an approved learning framework to plan activities and provide care to children; educating them to achieve developmental outcomes.
